Officials at Egyptian Higher Education Resort to Social Media

CAIRO, Jan. 26 (SEE) - Development of technology is growing very fast and social media reaches everyone, especially youth.

In order to connect with students, some of the universities’ presidents created Facebook accounts, others are only communicating through phones, and some prefer to be present themselves amongst students and their activities.

In this regard, to publish all topics, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research recently resorted to all social media’s channels including the Instagram application.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar dedicated series, almost on monthly bases, titled “Ask and the minister will answer.” These episodes aim to answer all the reclamation box’s inquiries.

Concerning, the Egyptian universities’ presidents and deputies, Facebook became one of the methods important methods to communicate with students and teaching staff.

Probably the most interactive university’s president in this regard is Cairo University’s President Mohamed Osman Al-Khosht. Although his personal phone number is not available to everyone, he is doing his best to connect with students and teaching staff.

Helwan University’s president Magued Negm is publishing the university’s events, almost continuously. He is also circulating protocols of joint cooperation with the concerned entities.

Abdel Wehab Ezzat, Ain Shames University’s president is almost depending on the university’s media center, public relations, and official websites.

Mansoura’s and Tanta Universities’ presidents Ashraf Abdel Baset and Magdy Al-Sabee, respectively, launched official Facebook pages under their names, to publish the universities’ news.

Regarding Assiut University’s deputy president for education and students affairs, Shehata Gharib Shalkamy is communicating with students and teaching stuff by marketing through his personal Facebook account.

He publishes his tours that serve the educational process, the education and students department’s work, and the university’s events.

Credit goes to, concerning active social media interaction, to former universities’ presidents, especially former Cairo University’s president Gaber Gad Nassar who used to publish all about the university’s development and cultural seasons through his official personal account.

Nassar opened different channels to communicate with students and teaching staff.
