Victoria Nuland, Under-secretary of State did not rule out that the United States of America (USA) may plan to isolate Russia completely from the international financial system if the Russian government decides to invade Ukraine.
Over a hearing in US Senate, Nuland affirmed that isolating Russia completely from the international financial system would be a suitable step despite devastating repercussions on the business sector and the Russian people.
Nuland indicated that the USA is going to discuss this scenario with its allies.
She warns that isolation will leave harsh fallouts on the Russian companies and people as isolation limits chances of travel and business for Russians.
The Under-Secretary of State pointed out that her country is mulling over all available options to prevent Russia from aggression including unprecedented sanctions that may be imposed gradually.
In addition, the USA expressed hope at closing the pipeline of the “ Nord Stream”, that conveys the Russian natural gas to Europe, if Moscow invades Ukraine.
The US Administration is conferring with the newly appointed German government because the pipeline depends basically on the approval of that government.
The US considers that the German party is ready to take a decisive measurement.
Western governments claim that Russia is about to invade the Ukrainian territories but Moscow denies such accusations.
Russia affirms that military movements ordered by Kyiv and its allies are inciting.
However, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that his country insists on preventing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) towards the western border of Russia.
He added that the Western alliance refuses to consider Russia’s proposals to ease tensions and prevent dangerous incidents.
On the other hand, Dmitri Peskov, spokesman for the Russian Presidency, warned that Ukraine exploits every chance to carry out aggression on the Russian peninsula of Crimea.
It is worth noting the last talks between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart yesterday, Tuesday, touched on how to ease tensions on borderline between Russia and Ukraine.
