Ukraine's commander in Mariupol, Serhiy Volyna, stated that his forces might be facing their last days amid Russian attacks.

“The enemy is outnumbering us 10 to one," he said in a video posted on Facebook. "We appeal and plead to all world leaders to help us. We ask them to use the procedure of extraction and take us to the territory of a third-party state."

"We are only defending one object - the Azovstal plant - where in addition to military personnel, there are also civilians who have fallen victim to this war,” he noted.

On his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that the Russian shelling in Kharkiv, the Donbas and Dnipro has “increased significantly”, adding that the situation in Mariupol “remains unchanged” and “as severe as possible".

The Russian forces are blocking "any efforts to organise humanitarian corridors and save our people," the president indicated. "The fate of at least tens of thousands of Mariupol residents who were previously relocated to Russian-controlled territory is unknown.”
