Officer Killed in Chicago Hospital Shooting

A police officer has been killed and another critically injured in a shooting inside a hospital in Chicago, authorities said on Saturday.

Larry Snelling confirmed that a suspect is in custody following the incident, which took place at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital.

According to police, officers had transported an individual to the hospital for observation when the situation escalated. During the visit, the suspect opened fire, striking two officers. One officer later died from critical injuries, while the second remains in a life-threatening condition.

Hospital officials said the facility was placed on lockdown immediately after the shooting, adding that patients and staff were secured and remained safe throughout the incident.

Preliminary details indicate the suspect had been brought to the emergency department under police supervision and was searched upon arrival in line with standard procedures. Authorities said the individual later managed to carry out the shooting before fleeing the building.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended, and an investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine how the attack unfolded.
