About 85% of Gaza’s territory is currently under evacuation orders or designated as military zones, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Wednesday, underscoring the escalating humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
In a statement, OCHA warned that the widespread displacement orders and military restrictions are severely hampering civilians’ access to essential services and humanitarian aid.
In a related development, OCHA confirmed that the main water distribution center in Khan Younis is now inaccessible due to an evacuation order affecting the area. The shutdown of the facility threatens to worsen the already dire water shortages facing hundreds of thousands of residents in southern Gaza.
The developments come amid ongoing military operations and rising concerns among aid agencies over the ability to deliver critical assistance to the civilian population.
Humanitarian groups continue to call for safe corridors and protection of civilian infrastructure to avert a deeper humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
