Trump Appoints Robert O’Brien as New National Security Adviser

US President Donald Trump has named Robert O'Brien as his new national security adviser, replacing John Bolton, who was sacked several days ago.

“I am pleased to announce that I will name Robert C. O’Brien, currently serving as the very successful Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, as our new National Security Advisor. I have worked long & hard with Robert. He will do a great job!,” Trump tweeted.

Who is Robert O'Brien?                                                                

1-O'Brien was born in Los Angeles, United States.

2- He graduated from the faculty of law, California University, Berkeley, in 1991, and during his career, he worked in a number of law firms.

3- He holds a B.A. in political science conferred with Highest Honors

4-He is a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy.

5- From 1996-1998, O'Brien worked as a lawyer for the UN Security Council in Geneva.

6- O'Brien has worked closely with the families of American hostages and advised the senior leadership of the US government on hostage issues before taking over the new position. He also sought to develop and implement a hostage recovery strategy in the United States.

7- O'Brien previously served as co-chair of the US State Department's Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan, under the leadership of Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton.

8- He was appointed to the US Advisory Committee on Cultural Property, which advises the federal government on issues related to trafficking in antiquities and other cultural materials.

9- In 2005, he was nominated by former President George W. Bush, with Senate approval, to serve as representative of the United States (US) at the 60th session of the UN General Assembly.

10- He served as Advisor to a number of US presidential candidates including Mitt Romney, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz.

11- In 2016, O'Brien was appointed as a special envoy of the US President for the Liberation of Hostages affairs.

12- O'Brien has published a number of books, including “While America Slept: Restoring American Leadership to a World in Crisis” in 2016.

13- As a hostage envoy, O’Brien has succeded in addressing many issues foremost of which; the realizing of US rapper ASAP Rocky, who was charged with violence in Sweden.

14- O'Brien is a member of the Mormon Christian community and after taking his oath of office; he will become the most significant senior US official belonging to this religious community in the US.
