Former US President Barack Obama officially opened the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Thursday, launching a three-day celebration attended by former world leaders, US presidents, and prominent cultural figures.
Located in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side, the $850 million complex includes a presidential museum, public library, performing arts venue, and athletic facilities. The center is expected to attract up to one million visitors annually.
The opening ceremony drew former US presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden, as well as international figures including Angela Merkel and Justin Trudeau.
In his remarks, Obama described the center as a tribute to the city that shaped his political career and a symbol of civic engagement, democracy, and public service. Former First Lady Michelle Obama praised her husband's leadership and called the center a lasting investment in future generations.
Designed as both a cultural landmark and community hub, the Obama Center aims to preserve the legacy of America's first Black president while promoting education, leadership, and democratic participation.
