The New York Times (NYT) quoted sources in the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) as saying that US officials and analysts gave their opinion regarding the cluster munitions provided by the United States to Kyiv forces, as these experts questioned the feasibility of these munitions against Russian defenses.

Unnamed Pentagon officials said they questioned the immediate benefits of cluster munitions after they were delivered to Kyiv forces.

They said that it can influence the activity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a later time only if Kyiv receives larger quantities of these shells.

It is known that on July 7, the White House National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, announced that Washington would transfer cluster munitions to Kyiv.

In turn, US President Joe Biden indicated that the transfer of cluster munitions to Kyiv would ensure the success of the attack by the Ukrainian armed forces.
