The New York Times (NYT) monitored the position of black voters on President Joe Biden's announcement of his candidacy for a second presidential term, noting that a large number of them were frustrated by unfulfilled promises in his first term.
And the US newspaper said that when Biden started his re-election campaign last week, he pledged to finish the job he started in 2021, and certainly no one wants this more than black voters.
Black voters are the group most loyal to the Democrats, and they were the reason for reviving Biden's faltering presidential campaign in Southern California.
In return, the black voters hoped Biden's administration would bypass previous presidents in trying to improve their communities, and they listened intently to his promises to do so.
However, some of the most important priorities for black voters, which include stronger protection
federalism against restrictive voting laws, student debt relief, and measures for criminal justice and police accountability have failed or stalled, some because of Republican opposition, others because Democrats refuse to bypass the filibuster rule in the Senate.
