Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) recorded a significant earthquake early on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 1:51:15 AM local time.
The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, struck approximately 631 kilometers north of Rashid.
The event's epicenter was located at a latitude of 35.12°N and a longitude of 27.0°E, with a depth of 76 kilometers.
According to NRIAG's data, the earthquake was felt in several parts of Egypt, including coastal areas along the Mediterranean.
However, there have been no reported casualties or significant damage to property.
The tremor was part of a broader seismic activity affecting the eastern Mediterranean region, as it was also strongly felt in Greece and Cyprus.
In Greece, the earthquake caused temporary disruptions, with reports of shaking felt in several cities, including the island of Crete.
Cypriot residents also reported feeling the tremor.
