The Norwegian military announced today that Norway has reached an agreement with the United States to purchase advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles, known as AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, for a total value exceeding 4 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $362.91 million).
Norwegian Minister of Defence Bjørn Arild Gram stated in a press release from the Norwegian Defence Material Agency that, “By increasing and modernizing the missile inventory, Norway's armed forces will enhance their capability to protect the country against any aerial threats.”
The Norwegian Defence Material Agency clarified that the primary objective of this missile procurement is to bolster the ground-based air defense system.
However, these missiles can also be integrated into the arsenal of Norway’s F-35A fighter jets. This deal marks one of the largest single arms purchases ever undertaken by the Norwegian military.
