North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang on December 10 to offer condolences following the death of Aleksandr Ivanovich Matsegora, Russia’s ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Kim Jong Un laid flowers and observed a moment of silence in honor of the late ambassador, who had served in Pyongyang for many years and was widely known for his role in strengthening bilateral relations. He met with members of Matsegora’s family and embassy officials, extending heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the North Korean leadership.
During the visit, Kim Jong Un described Matsegora as an accomplished diplomat whose work left a meaningful imprint on the long-standing partnership between Pyongyang and Moscow. He referred to him as a close friend of the DPRK and someone well-regarded by the North Korean people.
Kim noted that Matsegora’s passing comes at a time of deepened cooperation between Russia and North Korea, calling it a significant loss for both countries. He stressed, however, that the late ambassador’s contributions would be remembered and that bilateral relations would continue to advance in the spirit he championed.
