North Korean President Kim Jong Un participated in the unveiling ceremony of a submarine that can conduct a nuclear attack, describing the new device as a part of a "push forward with the nuclear weaponisation of the Navy", North Korean news agency KCNA stated on Friday.
Recently released images showed Kim, wearing a light suit and sun hat, speaking to sailors next to the submarine, whose bow carried the North Korean flag.
The launch of submarine, named the Hero Kim Kun Ok, was described as "heralded the beginning of a new chapter for bolstering up the naval force of the DPRK", KCNA said.
During the launch ceremony, Kim said the submarine is "one of core underwater offensive means of the naval force of the DPRK".
He added that North Korea will turn its submarines into nuclear attack vessels.
