Kim Jong Un has officially declared South Korea an enemy state, according to the Korean Central News Agency, marking a sharp escalation in inter-Korean tensions.

Speaking at the first session of the 15th Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim said Pyongyang would treat Seoul as its most hostile adversary and would fully reject and ignore it in both policy and practice.

He also reaffirmed that North Korea will never abandon its status as a nuclear state, describing it as irreversible and pledging continued efforts to strengthen the country’s nuclear capabilities. Kim added that the government would intensify its confrontation with what he described as hostile forces, vowing to counter and neutralize any perceived threats.

During the session, senior officials also presented constitutional amendments aligned with what they described as a new phase in the country’s development. Lawmakers unanimously approved revisions to the constitution, including changes to its official designation, as part of broader efforts to reinforce the state’s legal and political framework.

The announcement underscores rising geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with analysts warning of further deterioration in relations between the two Koreas.
