North Korea asserted on Sunday that its status as a nuclear-armed state is "irreversible and key to ensuring regional stability," flatly rejecting calls from the United States and its allies for denuclearization.
Channel NewsAsia quoted a North Korean spokesperson stating that Washington's weapon system sales to both Seoul and Tokyo justify Pyongyang's pursuit of its nuclear program.
The spokesperson added, "No matter how the United States, Japan, and South Korea try to object, they will not change North Korea's current status as a nuclear-armed state."
This statement follows a trilateral meeting held by the United States, South Korea, and Japan in Tokyo last Friday.
According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the three allies reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula during the meeting.
