Nissan Sales Drop 12% Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Sales of car-maker "Nissan" fell by 12% in China during the past month on an annual basis, negatively affected by the spread of the coronavirus and the start of the Lunar New Year holiday earlier than usual.

The Japanese automaker said, on Friday, that its sales in China dropped by 11.8% during January on an annual basis to reach 118,143 thousand vehicles.

Last year, Nissan sold about 1.55 million cars in China, 1.1 percent less than the previous year, yet, sales in the Chinese market saw a decline of 8.2 percent.

The company, which has a joint venture with the Chinese company, "Dongfeng Motor", which is based in Wuhan, homeland to the coronavirus, is considering restarting production in China sometime after February 10.

Meantime, production is expected to return in Hubei Province, capital of Wuhan after February 14.

By the end of today's trading, the share price of Nissan on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) fell 0.9 percent to $ 10.8.
