Irrigation Ministry Carries out Campaigns to Clean Nile River from Plastic Waste

Dr. Hani Swelim, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, visited today, Friday, a site for recycling plastic waste on the island of Qursaya in Giza Governorate.

This site is supervised by a civil society organization as an initiative to preserve the environment and safe disposal of plastic waste, especially dumped in the Nile River.

Dr. Swailem inspected the press used to recycle plastic bottles extracted from the Nile River, as about 10 tons of plastic are extracted from the Nile every month.

He also inspected some of the products offered by the initiative, including recycled plastic bags and bottles, as well as the initiative's website on social networks, expressing his admiration and appreciation for the idea and encouragement to expand its application.

The minister stated that the support for this initiative comes in light of the endeavor to adopt green policies that serve and preserve the environment in line with the great momentum resulting from the COP27 climate conference, and to serve the goals of sustainable development and the preservation of our water resources, the most important of which is the Nile River
