Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu will meet with his US counterpart, Joe Biden, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in New York next month.
The UNGA is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 26.
In a statment, Nigerian Presidnetial spokesman Aguri Ngilali said that Tinubu accepted the invitation, which was delivered by the US presidential envoy and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Vee.
The two presidents are likely to discuss the situation in Niger as Tinubu, who currently heads the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), is working with leaders of other countries in the west of the continent to find a solution after the military junta's seizure of power.
Tinubu, who has embarked on Nigeria's most aggressive reforms in decades, called for increased US investment in his country and enhanced cooperation to defend democracy in West Africa amid rising coups in the region.
