On, Monday Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari promised that the government would bring the irresponsible police officers to justice, after nearly a week of continuous protests against police cruelty.
Police opened fire with live ammunition against anti-police demonstrators in the Lagos. Tolu Ogunlesi, Muhammdu Buhari's aide, said at least one person got been killed by police gunfire.
He tweeted: "There is no excuse for shooting anything (not to talk of live bullets) at peaceful protesters."
Also, he added that "authorities must find the shooters and make them face justice in full".
Buhari promised "extensive police reforms". he acknowledged "genuine concerns and agitations by Nigerians about the excessive use of force and in some cases extra-judicial killings and wrongful conduct of the men of the Nigerian Police Force." according to Today World.
On Sunday, authorities announced the dissolving of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad police unit, known as SARS, the target of demonstrators who accuse it of beating up, murdering Nigerians and stealing from them.
Rights groups and protesters say they are unconvinced by the promise to dissolve the unit, commenting that similar announcements had been made before.
