A delegation from the military group in Niger requests enhanced support to address upcoming challenges, as West African nations consider military intervention to restore constitutional order in Niamey.
Guinea's state television reported that President Mamadi Doumbouya received the Nigerien delegation led by General Moussa Salau Parmo on Saturday evening in Conakry.
Parmo expressed gratitude for the Guinean authorities' support to the National Council for the Protection of Democracy (which holds power following the coup) during these challenging times in Niger.
In a statement released at the end of July, Conakry, which has also been under a regime stemming from a coup since September 2021, expressed its disagreement with the economic group West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) "over the sanctions it proposed (against Niamey), including military intervention," urging the regional organization "to reconsider its stance."
Likewise, Mali and Burkina Faso, both led by military figures, have shown solidarity with Niamey.
The Nigerien delegation's visit to Conakry comes two days after an ECOWAS summit in Abuja, where its leaders indicated a preference for resolving the crisis diplomatically while authorizing the preparation of "reserve forces" in readiness to reinstate Bazoum.
