Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, president of New Giza University (NGU) has welcomed the Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed, pointing out that the day “is promising with bright future for students, and that the ceremony is the opening of the doctor project.
Dr. Farid was referring to the ‘White coat’ ceremony, organized by the university. He added that the university is establishing many principles, including respect and honesty in the study, as well as educating physicians to serve patients with dedication and sincerity, in addition to dictating new ways of education in accordance with global developments.
He stressed that students must develop themselves in addition to what they are being taught at the university. “They must have passion for tomorrow.. the era of traditional education has ended," he added.
He explained that the university aims to prepare graduates and empower them with international qualification standards, emphasizing how students are prepared to deal with the technological development and its recent superiority over humans by maximizing the values that technology can not offer.
He pointed out that the university has a large area of freedom and development.
He pointed out that the presence of deans and professors of UCL University, one of the largest British universities, which ranks seventh in the world, comes in line with the academic cooperation between the two universities since 2016.
This cooperation aimed at reaching a high quality medical education, which fulfills the mission of the university at restoring Egypt's leadership in medical education and distinguished health care.
On her part, Dr. Hala Zayed, minister of Health, said that it is rare for her to leave her office and work, but she was keen to take part in this ceremony. She pointed out that she visited many universities, but was never impressed as she was at NGU, in terms of the system.
In her speech, Zayed added that Egypt has successful models such as the University of New Giza, adding that her ministry has agreed with Harvard University over cooperation for doctors, health insurance and scientific research, which ensures sustainability.
Zayed addressed students, saying: “I want you to be strong, capable of changing everything and do not give up, Egypt is changing and will change by you”.
Zayed elaborated that Egypt's medical service providers have proved to the whole world that each of them is a hero in his position, calling on the youth to do more work. She considered youth as the secret in the success of presidential initiatives.
She added that the Egyptian government is working to provide all means of care and training for all its medical service providers, pointing out that a project to improve the work environment for health workers has been launched in order to provide a suitable environment for that work.
On the other hand, the minister said that several training missions have been sent to the UK, for Egyptian doctors to get trained and raise their level and efficiency of their performance in the specialty of family medicine.
She added that the current generation is lucky to have technological developments and scientists, which ensures that the current generation will be better, noting that the World Health Organization will announce soon that Egypt has launched an unprecedented historic campaign.
Furthermore, Dr. Deborah Gill, director of the Faculty of Medicine, University of London, said that students here are supported by a qualified university such as New Giza University and are supporting each other.
She addressed the new batch, saying: “You are doctors and pharmacists of the future and the medical care in Egypt is your responsibility.. you are entrusted with shaping the future of health care in Egypt, and we expect you to ask questions about the past, challenge the present and shape the future.”
This year's ‘White coat’ Ceremony was attended by Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health, British Ambassador Sir Jeffrey Adams, Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, president of NGU, and the staff of UCL Deans and Professors; Dr. Deborah Gill, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dr. Duncan. Craig, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at UCL.
