New Zealand has announced the first death it believes is linked to Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccination.

The woman's death was "probably" caused by myocarditis, an infection of the heart muscle, according to an independent vaccination safety monitoring board.

Other medical conditions could also have "affected the outcome following vaccination," according to the report.

Myocarditis is an "extremely unusual" adverse effect, according to European regulators, and the vaccine's advantages outweigh the dangers.

The official cause of death has not yet been determined.

The Covid-19 Vaccine Independent Safety Monitoring Board, on the other hand, concluded that the myocarditis was "probably attributable to immunization."

"This is the first time death in the days after immunization has been related to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in New Zealand. While the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring has received other reports of deaths in people who had just been vaccinated, none of these are thought to be linked to vaccination "In a statement, it added.

The woman's death is being looked into further, and a coroner will make a decision soon. Officials haven't revealed any other information, such as the woman's age.

Myocarditis has been identified as a "extremely rare" adverse effect of the Covid vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna, according to the European Medicines Agency, with the negative effects being more likely in younger males.

In the United Kingdom, for example, 195 occurrences of myocarditis have been reported among those who received the Pfizer vaccination, with a rate of roughly five incidents per million. The majority of those occurrences resulted in minor symptoms.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended people to continue obtaining vaccines because they assist to prevent people from becoming seriously unwell from Covid-19.

New-onset chest pain, shortness of breath, and an irregular heartbeat are all symptoms of myocarditis.

Experts advise anyone suffering these symptoms in the days following immunization to visit a doctor right once.

Officials in New Zealand said on Monday that they "remain confident in using [the Pfizer vaccine] in New Zealand."

According to Johns Hopkins University, 3,465 Covid instances have been reported in the United States, including 26 deaths.

New Zealand was praised at first for its management of the virus, but the vaccination roll-out has been delayed, though it has accelerated in recent days.

More than three million vaccine doses have been given out, and 23% of the population has been immunized.

The Delta version has been blamed for a recent rise of Covid cases, which has put vast portions of the country on lockdown. In the country of around 5 million inhabitants, there are already about 560 instances.

Restrictions will be lifted on Tuesday, with the exception of Auckland, the country's largest metropolis.
