The Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, has called for a major shift in US foreign policy and military aid provided to Israel.
In an interview with the American network ABC News, when asked about his stance on Israel, Mamdani stated: "I do not support any state that privileges one religion over another. American voters are sending a message to their leaders that they are no longer willing to fund military conflicts in the Middle East."
He added that Americans are "tired" of policies that have led to spending tens of billions of dollars on foreign wars that cause civilian casualties, at a time when working-class individuals face economic hardships at home inside the United States.
Mamdani also pointed to the rise in hate incidents in New York, noting an increase in antisemitism across the city, describing it as "completely unacceptable" and asserting that his administration will not normalize it.
