Philadelphia and several large US states announced on Monday new strict measures on gatherings and commercial activity to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

COVID-19 threatens to crush health care systems and kill thousands more in the coming weeks.

New Jersey, California, Ohio, and the largest city in Pennsylvania joined a growing list of states that have re-imposed strict measures. They are trying to curb the rise in the number of Coronavirus infections, after their decline in the summer.

Health experts warn that the upcoming holiday travel season with cold weather will lead to an increase in infections.

As of Monday, more than 70,000 Americans are receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, the largest number ever since the pandemic began, according to Reuters reports.

The number of confirmed cases in the United States has so far exceeded 11 million on Monday, just over a week after it exceeded ten million.
