Health authorities in Pakistan’s Sindh province have confirmed a new case of monkeypox in the city of Karachi, raising renewed concern over the spread of the virus in the region.
According to officials, laboratory tests confirmed that a 40-year-old man tested positive for the virus. The patient is currently receiving treatment in a local hospital and remains under medical observation.
Health officials noted that the patient had not recently traveled abroad, a detail that has raised concerns about possible local transmission of the infection.
The latest case brings the total number of reported infections in Karachi to 10, while Sindh Province has recorded 35 cases since the beginning of the year.
The development has prompted authorities to strengthen monitoring measures and preventive protocols aimed at limiting further spread.
Public health teams are actively conducting contact tracing and closely monitoring potential cases across the province.
Officials also reported that Sindh has recorded at least nine deaths linked to the disease this year, underscoring the seriousness of the outbreak and the urgency of containment efforts.
