Moments ago, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, has been announced as the new Duke of Edinburgh succeeding his late father, Prince Philip who passed away on Friday.
The title has been handed traditionally to Philip's eldest son, Charles, however, the title will go to the youngest son of the queen and her "devoted" partner, Prince Edward.
Edward will officially hold the title when Charles crowned as the new king of the UK.
The departed duke received the title in 1947 on his wedding day to the young princess, Elizabeth II. In 1999, the Duke and the Queen granted their youngest son, Prince Edward, the dukedom on his wedding day.
On Friday, Buckingham Palace has announced the death of the queen's "beloved" husband, Prince Philip aged 99.
