The Dutch government announced on Monday that it is tightening restrictions on the export of all military goods and dual-use products bound for Israel.

In a letter to parliament, officials stated that all direct exports and goods transiting through the Netherlands to Israel will now be reviewed for compliance with European regulations.

These shipments will no longer be allowed under general export licenses.

Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp and Trade Minister Reinette Klever explained that the decision was driven by the current security situation in Israel, the Palestinian territories, and the broader region.

Exporters can still apply for licenses, but each application will undergo strict checks under European export control rules.

The government confirmed that since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, no military products have been exported to Israel from the Netherlands under a general license.

However, the general license had been frequently used to export low-risk information security products, such as network security routers.

Authorities now estimate that between 50 and 100 individual export licenses will need to be requested for these products going forward.

Last year, a Dutch court ordered the government to halt all exports of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel due to concerns they could be used in ways that violate international law during the Gaza conflict.

Israel has denied accusations of breaking international law.
