The Dutch Ministry of Defense has announced plans to expand the country's military force to about 100,000 personnel by 2030, with a potential increase to 200,000 in the following years.

This strategic move comes in response to rising global tensions and the evolving security landscape in Europe.

According to a statement published on the ministry's official website, the Dutch government aims to accelerate recruitment efforts for both professional soldiers and reservists while also integrating them into permanent units more efficiently.

State Secretary for Defense, Jisse Tuinman, informed the House of Representatives about the expansion plan, emphasizing the need for swift implementation of necessary military reforms to ensure preparedness.

Dutch media sources have previously reported that the Ministry of Defense is considering a significant troop expansion due to growing geopolitical instability.

Security experts suggest that, given these ambitions, the Netherlands may eventually reconsider reinstating mandatory military service, which was suspended in the 1990s.

This initiative aligns with broader European efforts to bolster defense capabilities amid increasing security concerns, particularly in light of Russia's ongoing military actions in Ukraine and NATO's push for stronger military readiness among its member states.

The Netherlands has been actively modernizing its defense strategy, with increased investments in military infrastructure, equipment, and personnel recruitment.
