The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that the Netherlands has contributed €16.1 million to Afghanistan’s humanitarian aid fund.

This significant donation aims to support the ongoing relief efforts in the country, which continues to face severe humanitarian challenges.

OCHA expressed its gratitude to the Netherlands for the contribution via a social media post on Sunday.

The donation amounts to USD 16.1 million and will help address Afghanistan’s urgent humanitarian needs in 2024.

With this latest donation, the Netherlands becomes the third-largest donor to Afghanistan, having provided over €89 million in aid since 2016.

The Dutch contribution is seen as a critical lifeline for the struggling nation, which is still reeling from ongoing crises.

Previously, the UK also contributed $7.8 million to Afghanistan’s humanitarian fund. However, despite these international efforts, OCHA warns that Afghanistan still faces a significant funding gap.

The country requires $227 million to meet its most urgent needs, but only $14.6 million has been secured so far.
