Popular streaming platform Netflix released, Thursday, "Supa Team 4" which is its first-ever African anime series.
The series is influenced by the stories of the heroes who work to save the world. The events take place in an imagined vision of Lusaka, Zambia's capital, in the future.
Its events revolve around four teenage girls who work together under the supervision of a former secret agent to save the world.
"Supa Team 4" was written by Zambian author Malenga Mulendema who expressed her hopes to see more African original works by the giant streamer.
Mulendema told AFP: "I'm thrilled that the world will finally get to see the fantastic series that the very talented team, from Africa and beyond, has made."
She added: "We hope that +Supa Team 4+ will lead to further investment and collaboration so that we can continue to grow the industry."
The Zambian writer also revealed that she selected her country to be the location of the events to "show that anyone, from anywhere, can be a superhero".
In the same context, Zambian Rapper Sampa the Great, who performed the series' main theme, said: "(Animated) series have shaped our childhoods and knowing that young Zambians are going to be able to see something they've never seen on TV before is great."
Recently, Netflix expanded its non-American-based stuff like the Spanish "La Casa de Papel" and the South Korean "Squid Game".
