Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel intends to maintain a security buffer inside Lebanese territory rather than along its own side of the border.
During a visit to the security zone in southern Lebanon with Defense Minister Israel Katz, Netanyahu was quoted by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth as saying that Israel's guiding principle is to establish security zones inside Lebanon, on the Lebanese side of the border.
Israel says the buffer zone is intended to keep northern communities beyond the range of anti-tank missiles and other attacks launched by Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli forces set fire to several homes in the towns of Aita al-Jabal and Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil District as cross-border hostilities continued. The agency also said Israeli artillery shelled Beit Yahoun, causing property damage, with no immediate reports of casualties.
