The Embassy of Nepal in Egypt hosted a meditation session in Cairo to mark the International Day of Meditation, highlighting mindfulness as a response to growing global challenges.

The event, organized in cooperation with the Jeevan Vigyan Foundation–Nepal, was held on Friday at Freedom Park in Zamalek under the theme “Meditation: One Self, One Nature”. The gathering brought together diplomats, members of the Nepali community, representatives of the business and civil society sectors, and Egyptian media.

In his address, Nepal’s Ambassador to Egypt, Sushil K. Lamsal, said Nepal was among the six core countries that initiated the United Nations resolution designating December 21 as the International Day of Meditation. The resolution was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2024. He noted that as the land of yoga and meditation, Nepal continues to draw inspiration from the wisdom of its ancestors, which still guides daily life and cultural values.

The ambassador highlighted the mounting pressures created by multiple global crises, as well as the unforeseen consequences of rapid technological change. He stressed that humanity needs a stable anchor to better understand these profound transformations and manage their wide-ranging effects. According to Lamsal, self-reflection and inner exploration offer a meaningful path forward, as many answers to modern challenges lie within individuals themselves, serving as a source of peace, harmony and healing.

The meditation session was led by Santosh Khadka, a trainer at the Jeevan Vigyan Foundation, who guided participants through practices focused on self-awareness, conscious breathing and inner attention. The session aimed to promote deep relaxation, calmness and inner peace.

During the programme, Deputy Head of Mission Indira Gohour Aryal delivered a presentation on Nepal as a destination for wellness and therapeutic tourism. Second Secretary Ritesh Shah offered words of thanks on behalf of the embassy, while Third Secretary Gajendra Rai moderated the event.

The celebration underscored Nepal’s commitment to promoting mindfulness and well-being at the international level, aligning diplomatic engagement with cultural heritage and global dialogue on mental and spiritual health.
