In a revealing study conducted by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), it has emerged that a staggering 89% of Egyptian youth, aged between 18 and 29, are active internet users. This demographic, accounting for 21% of Egypt's population, was studied in light of International Youth Day on August 12th. The data showcases a promising trend in digital literacy and engagement among young Egyptians.
The detailed report uncovers that out of Egypt's 21.9 million youth, an almost equal gender distribution was observed with 50.5% males and 49.5% females. Delving deeper into online habits, the study found that 52.6% of these youths leverage the internet for health services. Additionally, 51.5% engage with electronic government platforms, and a significant 75.1% utilize online resources to gather information about products and services.
Celebrated globally, International Youth Day focuses on pressing challenges faced by the younger generation. Each year, a thematic focus, often derived from inputs from global youth bodies and the UN Inter-Agency Network in Youth Development, is chosen. This year's theme, "Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World", reflects a growing global emphasis on eco-friendly skills and sustainability. The day also encourages youngsters to host events that amplify youth-centric issues in their respective nations.
Egypt's rising digital engagement among its youth marks a pivotal shift towards a more connected future, indicative of the larger global digital trend.
