Hundreds of Palestinians gathered in Khan Younis on Monday to welcome prisoners released from Israeli jails as part of a major exchange agreement.

According to Israel’s Prison Service, 1,986 Palestinian detainees were freed under the deal, the details of which have not yet been made public. The released prisoners were transferred through coordinated crossings into Gaza, where families and supporters awaited their arrival amid scenes of jubilation and relief.

Video circulated on social media showed emotional reunions, as residents waved Palestinian flags and chanted in celebration of what many described as a “moment of freedom and resilience.”

The mass release marks one of the most significant steps in recent months toward reinforcing the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions. Diplomatic sources say the agreement follows intensive mediation efforts led by Egypt to stabilize the situation in Gaza and advance broader negotiations.
