On Monday, the Egyptian National Elections Authority (NEA) announced that a total of 4,006 inpidual candidates and 8 electoral lists are scheduled to run for the coming parliamentary elections, which is set to be held on October 21.
On September 10, the NEA called on those who want to run for the elections to register their data as of September 17 till September 26.
On his part, the NEA chairman Counselor Lashin Ibrahim said that two lists in Cairo, and south and center Delta were accepted including: The National Unified List for Egypt, and Nedaa Masr Coalition.
He added that both lists were also accepted in Northern, center and southern Upper Egypt, and eastern Delta. While in western Delta sector the National Unified List for Egypt and Sons of Egypt list were accepted.
The NEA explained that a number of candidates were excluded off due to incomplete data registration like submitting a proof the potential candidate has either fulfilled military service or was exempted.
The NEA head affirmed that they have been at a distance from everyone, and operates within a single framework governed by transparency and integrity, bearing in mind the supremacy of the rule of law.
The Election Authority closed the door for parliamentary election candidacy 2021, Saturday at 2:00 pm Cairo local time.
Earlier, NEA set a ten-day period for receiving candidates ’papers, in preparation for announcing the initial lists of the names of the accepted candidates tomorrow, Sunday.
Noteworthy, MP Mohamed Aboul Enein announced last Monday his candidacy for the 2021 parliamentary elections in the Giza constituency.
Aboul Enein’s decision comes as a response to Giza’s citizens’ calls, as they urged him to be their representative in the parliament.
On his official “Facebook” page, Aboul Enein thanked Giza residents for their warm feelings and ultimate trust in him.
He also stressed his will to meet all the people’s needs, noting that he will seek to cope with the development witnessed by the Egyptian state in line with the state’s policies and the vision of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to achieve a decent and stable life for the citizens.
Some conditions were set, upon which parliament hopefuls are required to meet some conditions, in order to be able to run in parliamentary polls. These conditions include a medical check-up document showing that he/she tests negative for drugs.
A candidate should be not less than 25 years old, born to Egyptian parents, holder of at least a basic education certificate and finalized or exempted from military service.
