Egyptian psychiatrist, feminist and novelist Nawal El Saadawi passed away on Sunday at the age of 90 after a struggle with illness.
El Saadawi was a defender of human rights in general and of women in particular. She wrote many books on the subject of women in Islam. The late writer was dubbed as "the Simone de Beauvoir of the Arab World".
She founded and headed the Arab Women's Solidarity Association as well as co-founded the Arab Association for Human Rights.
