The mother of Russian opposition prominent figure Alexei Navalny asked the Russian authorities to release the body of his late son, media outlets reported on Tuesday.

In a video filmed outside the colony where Navalny, the late figure's mother said she had been trying to see him for five days but she couldn't.

"I've not been able to see him for five days, they're refusing to give his body to me, and they're not even saying where he is," she said.

"I'm asking you, Vladimir Putin - it all depends on you alone. Let me finally see my son. I demand that Alexei's body is released immediately so I can give him a decent burial."

In addition, Navalny's wife Yulia asked the authorities not to stop his loved ones from saying goodbye to him.

The family was told that Navalny's body would not be released for two weeks for "chemical analysis", a representative for the family said.

On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the accusations "unfounded and vulgar", adding that he wouldn't make more comments as Navalny's wife was widowed just days ago.
