Naval Forces Thwart Illegal Migration Attempt Near Salloum

CAIRO, Jan. 9 (SEE) - The Egyptian Naval Forces insist on securing

and protecting the maritime coasts and supporting search and rescue operations

in all strategic directions, according to an official statement released by the

Armed Forces’ Morale Affairs Department on Wednesday.

The statement revealed that one of the naval units succeeded

in thwarting an illegal immigration attempt in the direction of the Egyptian

coast near Salloum on the Libyan side.

The General Command of the Armed Forces directed to deal

with the mentioned boat and instructed the naval units to trace it and arrested

all persons on board.

“Approximately 29 persons from different nationalities were found on that illegal boat,” the statement pointed out.

Cairo has increasingly focused on the migration issue in recent years, working with European nations to tackle the problem.
