Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary- General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) stressed the need for additional military aid to Ukraine, ahead of a meeting of European Union defense ministers in Sweden.

Stoltenberg said on the sidelines of his talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christson in Stockholm on Tuesday evening, that they discussed the urgent need for increased support for Ukraine and the continuation of this support.

This has become a war of attrition and so it is also a battle of logistics, Stoltenberg said, adding that it is important now that arms production be increased.

In this context, Stoltenberg welcomed the fact that a joint purchase of ammunition by the European Union (EU) countries is underway. He explained that NATO had been working for years to complete joint procurement operations.

The 27 EU defense ministers want to discuss more arms shipments to Ukraine on Wednesday at a meeting at a conference center near Stockholm. Stoltenberg has been invited to the ministerial consultations as a guest.
