On Friday, the TurkishMinistry of National Defense said NATO air defense systems in the eastern Mediterranean Sea destroyed a missile launched from Iran after it entered Turkey’s airspace.
In a statement, the ministry said the missile was intercepted by defenses operated by NATO forces in the eastern Mediterranean.
Turkish officials said Ankara is currently in contact with Iranian authorities to seek clarification about the missile launch and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The ministry affirmed that Turkey would take all necessary measures decisively and without hesitation against any threat targeting its territory or airspace.
The incident highlights growing regional tensions as countries in the region increase military readiness in response to missile activity and security threats.
