The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued Thursday a report on the "National Review of Gender Statistics in Egypt".

The National Review of Gender Statistics is part of Egypt's plans to prepare the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics and to enhance Egypt's statistical capacity in the field of gender statistics.

The report was developed through a working group involving the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the National Council for Women (NCW), UN Women Egypt, and the Statistics Partnership for Development in the Twenty-first Century “Paris21”.

The report focuses on three broad areas related to gender statistics: (an enabling environment, data production, and data accessibility and use).to support Egypt in prioritizing and producing accurate and comparable for both sex data to enable it to properly measure and monitor progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women, so the report seeks to describe the status of gender statistics within Egypt statistical system as a first step to identify strategies to strengthen the availability and use of gender data.

The report also listed the basic statistical developments, programs, and activities related to gender statistics that are currently being implemented by government agencies and non-governmental organizations.

Moreover, the report identified gaps in gender data according to national and international policy frameworks (Egypt's Vision 2030, the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women, Sustainable Development Goals).

The report also discussed the supply and demand sides of gender data and statistics in Egypt. It recommended ways to strengthen the availability and use of gender statistics to be considered in the ongoing process of developing Egypt’s NSDS.

These recommendations underscore the need to:

- Develop the capacity of the national statistical system.

- Improve gender data collection to reduce information gaps.

- Strengthen gender data use and dissemination.
