NASA said it will use a SpaceX spacecraft, rather than Boeing, to return two astronauts stranded at the International Space Station.
Astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who were scheduled to return to Earth two months ago, will return in February aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft instead of the Boeing CST-100 Starliner that flew them to the space station and later encountered technical problems.
The US space agency announced Saturday that Boeing will return the Starliner capsule from the International Space Station without the NASA astronauts who carried it into orbit in early June.
With the Starliner returning to Earth empty, astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams will now return aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, which is expected to launch its ninth regular mission to the International Space Station for the agency on September 24.
