NASA has lost contact with its MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN) spacecraft orbiting Mars.
A NASA spokesperson told the German Press Agency (dpa) that efforts are currently underway to restore communication.
No regular data has been received from the spacecraft for about two weeks.
NASA said on Monday that a “short segment of tracking data” from earlier this month suggests the probe may be “spinning in an unexpected way.”
MAVEN was launched in late 2013 and has been orbiting Mars for nearly a decade, providing valuable scientific data, particularly on the planet’s atmosphere.
NASA also continues to operate the Mars Odyssey and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft, in addition to the Curiosity and Perseverance rovers on the surface of the Red Planet.
