The leader of the Nagorno-Karabakh region Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that a ceasefire was 'unavoidable' after reaching a deal among Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia to end the military conflict over the disputed region, according to Reuters.
He added that ethnic Armenian forces lost some regions during six weeks of fighting and Azeri units were close to Stepanakert, the region’s center.
It is worth mentioning that, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on, Monday, that the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces will remain in the positions they currently hold after signing an agreement to end the war between the two countries.
Putin added that the agreements would create conditions for a long-term settlement of the crisis in Karabakh in a manner that serves the interests of the two peoples.
“A complete ceasefire in Karabakh will take effect at 00:00 Moscow time on November 10,” Putin revealed.
The Russian president called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to exchange prisoners.
