Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy held a phone call Thursday with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti to discuss regional developments, support for the Palestinian cause and efforts to strengthen joint Arab action.
Fahmy praised Tunisia's longstanding contributions to the Arab League and its diplomatic support for Arab priorities, particularly the Palestinian cause, according to a League statement.
Nafti congratulated Fahmy on assuming office and wished him success in leading the organization.
The two officials discussed ways to capitalize on growing international support for Palestinian rights and advance efforts toward establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They also reviewed mechanisms to enhance Arab cooperation and improve the League's work in light of regional and international challenges, particularly as Tunisia prepares to assume the upcoming presidency of the Arab League Council at the foreign ministers' level. Fahmy reaffirmed the General Secretariat's commitment to close coordination with Tunisia on Arab and regional issues.
