Former Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi following Egypt’s decision to nominate him for the position of Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, effective July 1, 2026.
In an official statement, Fahmy extended his deep thanks to the member states of the long-standing regional organization for their unanimous approval to recommend his candidacy to the 35th Ordinary Arab Summit, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The recommendation supports his appointment as Secretary-General for a five-year term starting July 1, 2026.
Addressing regional challenges, Fahmy stated,"I undertake this great responsibility with utmost seriousness and awareness, given the unprecedented challenges facing our nation. These include flagrant violations of international law by aggressors acting with treachery against our states and safety, and others whose prolonged occupation of our lands obstructs our brothers from exercising their legitimate rights."
He further noted that the region is facing schemes aimed at hegemony and undermining the security and stability of the Arab world.
Concluding his statement, Fahmy added,"This nomination is a precious trust that I am committed to preserving and upholding through the Arab League. By consulting with its members, we aim to confront challenges to secure a more stable and prosperous Arab future. We seek to evolve our visions, capabilities, and institutions while strengthening pathways for development and fostering mutual interests among our nations."
