Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Thursday congratulated Egypt's national football team on reaching the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, describing the achievement as "well deserved" after what he called a heroic performance and an unwavering fighting spirit.
In a statement, Fahmy also congratulated Morocco on advancing in the tournament, praising both teams for continuing to elevate Arab football on the global stage.
He said this edition of the World Cup marked a historic milestone, with eight Arab teams qualifying for the finals for the first time, reflecting the growing competitiveness and ambitions of Arab football.
Fahmy also highlighted scenes of fans from across the Arab world celebrating each other's victories, saying the tournament demonstrated how sport can unite Arab peoples. He wished Egypt and Morocco continued success in the knockout stage.
