Nabil Fahmy officially assumed office as Secretary-General of the Arab League on Wednesday, succeeding Ahmed Aboul Gheit during a formal handover ceremony at the organization's headquarters in Cairo.

The ceremony, held at the General Secretariat, was attended by assistant secretaries-general, senior officials and staff members, marking the conclusion of Aboul Gheit's tenure and the beginning of Fahmy's mandate.

Following the handover, Fahmy received briefings from senior officials on recent political developments across the Arab world. He also convened a meeting with the assistant secretaries-general to discuss priorities for the coming period and review the working framework and coordination across the League's various sectors.

In his first official acts as secretary-general, Fahmy signed messages addressed to the kings, presidents and emirs of Arab states, expressing his gratitude for the confidence placed in him by Arab leaders.

He also signed letters to Arab foreign ministers outlining an assessment of current regional conditions and proposing measures aimed at strengthening the Arab world's ability to confront existing challenges. The correspondence included proposals to advance reform and modernization within the Arab League, while reinforcing efforts to promote economic and social development across the region.
