North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has emphasized the importance of reinforcing the country's naval capabilities to deter any potential nuclear war.
During a visit to the naval destroyer "Kang Kon" to supervise a sea trial, the North Korean leader stressed the critical need for the rapid development of naval forces to become a power reliably capable of fulfilling its role in nuclear war deterrence.
According to a report by Channel NewsAsia on Saturday, Kim stated, "Building a navy capable of delivering lethal strikes to enemies both above and below the water's surface is a vital objective of the ruling party's current five-year defense development plan."
Photos published by North Korean media showed Kim visiting the destroyer accompanied by his daughter, Ju Ae, alongside several senior state officials.
In recent years, the North Korean leader has repeatedly pledged to bolster his country's naval capabilities.
