On Monday, North Korea said that the new US alliance in the Indo-Pacific and US-Australia deal could lead to a "nuclear arms race" in the region.
"These are Extremely undesirable and dangerous actions that will upset the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific region and set off a series of the nuclear arms race," the official North Korean Central News Agency quoted a foreign ministry official as saying.
"This shows that the United States is the main official endangering the international nuclear non-proliferation regime," he added.
On Friday, France recalled its ambassadors to the United States and Australia in a ferocious row over the scrapping of a submarine contract.
Macron made the exceptional decision due to the “gravity of the announcements on September 15 by Australia and the United States”, stated Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in a statement.
This diplomatic backlash came two days after Australia announced the scrapping of a major purchase of French conventional submarines in favor of US nuclear-powered submarines.
